A few weekends back, I recently had a child-free, responsibility-free few hours.
They’re a lot rarer than they used to be, so you want to take advantage of them by doing as little as possible. Snacks in tow, I parked it on the couch and did something I haven't done in years: Aimlessly flip channels.
I landed on the Stanley Cup Playoff match between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Having not watching much hockey since the Blackhawks dynasty of the early 10s, it was foreign and familiar at the same time. The game was a thriller, with the Leafs winning in overtime.
As these things tend to go, I started looking into what I’ve been missing around the league. What I discovered locked me in for an hour or so.
At some point, I wrote this in my notebook:
“Is the NHL cool now?”
What to Expect in May
We’ll be running a feature looking into this very question this month. This month will also see the return of playlists to the newsletter.
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the new look of the newsletter. As always, I’d love to hear from you. All you gotta do is click the shiny button below:

Cool Hotel Pool
One of my personal favorites. The vibe is simple, yet very-specific.
Put this playlist on shuffle. Close your eyes. Imagine you’re at a Cool Hotel Pool. The type of joint where they got the clear jugs of water with fruit in it.
